Services Performed:
PEI provided design, analysis and manufacturing support for development of the simulator structure
Structural Analysis:
- Generated finite element model of the system including the visual display dome, motion platform, dome support structure, projector support structure, and spacer frame
- Provided quasi-static analysis for gravity loading
- Performed modal and buckling analyses and deflection study
- Performed global and detailed stress analysis including weld and mechanical joints
- Provided composite structural analysis
Engineering Design:
- Designed composite dome panels
- Provided design concepts, iterations, feasibility studies of all structural components
- Incorporated design of reinforcements as required by analysis
- Provided access platform, ladder, and handrail design
- Generated all detail part and assembly drawings
- Provided engineering support during manufacturing and installation
- Developed disassembly/reassembly/refinishing instructions
Composite and Joint Testing:
- Developed joint test plan and composite layup test plan
- Supervised testing effort and created test report
